In the UK we may not get the best summers, so when we see a lovely sunny day we have to make the most of it. I’m one of those girls that even if it’s awful outside I’m determined to still bring some summer style to the day. Clearly if it’s raining this choice of style isn’t going to be flip flops and a sun dress, however you can always add a touch of summer with your accessories.
Stella & Dot
If you haven’t heard of Stella & Dot then let me tell you a little about them. Stella & Dot is a US born jewellery business founded by Jessica Herrin. Jessica first started to create and sell jewellery in 2003, she called her designs Luxe Jewels and sold them at jewellery parties in her home. A few years pass & word spreads and Jessica started to make a good profit on her designs, in 2007 Blythe Harris comes on board as partner and the women re brand as Stella & Dot, the 2 names of their beloved Grandmother’s.
From this point on the company has grown so much that it is has been featured in “fastest growing company lists”, won business awards, become a well-known name in America, and is featured in huge magazines such as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and Elle. In the last 6 years Stella & Dot have expanded to the UK, Germany, France and Ireland.
The concept of the brand is that it isn’t sold in shops, but sold online and via Trunk Shows; a trunk show is an at home shopping party. A trunk show is hosted by a Stella & Dot representative, and these are the basis as to why the company was created. A Stella & Dot rep is someone who wants to work for themselves, decide their own hours, not work to crazy commission statistics & be surrounded by stunning jewellery.
How I found the brand
A few years ago now I was invited to a jewellery party of the brand (a trunk show), before the day we were sent the link to the website to check out the pieces. First impressions can be that the prices are higher than usual, however, the price really reflects the design and craftsmanship of the jewellery and accessories. At a recent trunk show I attended in 60 Hope Street I was able to get up close with the designs again and see how cool some of them are.
Stella and Dot are known for selling certain pieces that can be worn in a number of different ways. They sell necklaces that have 4 or 5 different ways to wear it, by detaching and rearranging different length chains. There are sets of earrings that can be interchanged and reversed to create new looks. Plus, they even have wrap round bracelets that can be worn as chokers. This is what I meant by the price reflecting the products, you’re not just getting 1 item, you’re gaining 2, 3, 4 or 5 statement pieces.
Style up Summer Essentials
If you know me, then you know I love a good pair of sunglasses. I think sunnies can glam up & add edge to an outfit, whether you’re wearing them to protect your eyes or popping them on your head. These sunglasses from Stella and Dot are a real focus piece. The colour of the frames are light purple with a tortoise shell effect within the colour and they are finished off with lovely silver hardware. These sunglasses would be perfect for a day at the beach or a city summer stroll as they are a versatile style. I’m going on holiday in October and these will definitely be this years staple sunglasses.
The Knot Bracelet
I spotted this bracelet at the trunk show in 60 Hope Street and fell in love it with it, I’d decided that when I got home I was going to order it, but then I opened up the goody bag we were so kindly given and this was in there. I was totally blown away. The design of the bracelet is so simple and yet so effective, it is a timeless, classic piece.
I have worn this casually of a day time, worn it on it’s own for an evening party, and also stacked it amongst other silver jewellery. Each time it has looked very elegant and has been noticed by different people for its unusual but pretty design. This will be in my jewellery collection for years.
The classic clutch
Everyone should own a clutch bag, even if you’re a over-sized handbag lover, there comes a time where we all need to use a clutch. Clutches are perfect for a night out, or when you’re just heading out for a meal or date night, these are evenings when you only need your phone, cash and lipstick; so why carry a big bag.
This clutch is bang on trend for the summer. It has the straw effect that has been seen on cross body bags, bucket bags and tote bags, and the monochrome colour scheme means you can wear it with so many outfits. The bag sits great against a colourful outfit, but also looks chic with a plain black look.
The lining of the bag also screams summer, coral palm tree print material, hello cocktails on the beach!
Summer, set, go!
I’d say that these 3 items; a good pair of sunglasses, a standout bracelet & a classic clutch, are the perfect accessories to invest in and complete a summer look. What do you think of these items?
I have left the link for Stella & Dot on each item, so you can browse their collections, check out the products I’ve mentioned and also read more about becoming a brand representative.
Hope you enjoyed the post guys, let me know what you think of the brand.
