This is a paid collaboration with Schwartz.
I am not usually one for talking about cooking. This is because I tend to not be very adventurous in the kitchen. But towards the end of last year & now in to this year, we have got much better at it.
Both myself and Ste decided that we wanted to buy less and less ready meals, and prepare our own meals at home. We had fallen in to bad habit forming of microwave meals and takeaways & wanted a change.
I have started to really enjoy preparing our meals, but I do struggle sometimes with adding more flavours to our dishes.
It was over Christmas when actually Ste (my husband for those who don’t know) brought home a Schwartz seasoning to add to his “post gym” meals, that it struck me, why hadn’t I thought of this.
Making Home Cooking Tastier
We aren’t the typical in the kitchen couple, we don’t have a spice rack or even a special rack of knives. But after trying the seasoning once, I knew we had to get more.
I was thrilled when Schwartz got in touch recently to see if I wanted to try their Pepper and Garlic steak seasoning. This particular herb and spice mix works great, not only with steak, but with loads of dishes I’ve discovered.
I like to use this when we are having a treat meal at home. Which for an occasion like Valentine’s Day just gone, worked perfectly with our Steak & Chips. Simple yet effective.
Alternative Meal Ideas
However, another lifestyle change (as I like to call it) that I set for myself in 2020 was to have less meat based meals. This is actually going really well. I’d say that I now eat meat only twice or three times a week. As opposed to almost every day sometimes.
This seasoning mix works great for meatless meals. I’ve tried it with meatless meatballs, and also in my veggie “sausage” casserole that I love to do in the slow cooker. It adds that extra kick of flavour, and makes a mouthwatering dish.
Adding It To Your Dishes
When using it on a steak, I tend to sprinkle an amount on to the palm of my hand 1st & then with the other pinch small amounts at a time. I sprinkle the seasoning over both sides of the steak & add it straight to a well oiled pan.
When cooking my veggie-balls I will spritz grease proof paper on a baking tray with some oil, sprinkle the seasoning straight on, and then add the veggie-balls. I give each one a quick roll so that the seasoning sticks.
The casserole is the easiest one. All my ingredients, plant based “sausages”, sweet potato, tomatoes, and broth all get added to the slow cooker. I then simply measure out a small amount on to the palm of my hand and sprinkle it in.
The peppers, garlic, and coriander in the mix give all these dishes that extra flavour, and make them even more delicious.
I’d love to know if you use a Schwartz mix regularly in your meals? What are some of your favourites to use? And what other quick, tasty meals do you like to make at home?
