NYL, the New York style bar and restaurant in Liverpool is now offering an American themed Afternoon Tea. We went to check it out for you & here’s how we found it.
A few months back I visited NYL with friends to try out their Bottomless Brunch. What an afternoon we had. I have since recommended this Brunch to so many people when they ask for ideas in the city centre. It now looks like I’ll be adding the Afternoon Tea they’re offering to the recommendation list as well.
The gang at NYL invited us back to try their new venture, and I’m so glad we didn’t miss it. I love an afternoon tea at the best of times. But when I hear of one that is a little different and offering up something special, then I just have to try it.
On The Menu
The afternoon tea is made up of the traditional three tiers of sandwiches, scones and cakes. But to make NYL’s as unique as it is, it’s all USA themed. This is because the whole of the restaurant channels New York City vibes.
The scones are a delicious traditional touch, with an NYL flair. They are blueberry and lemon drizzle flavour served with cream and jam.
Then on to the sandwiches, which is the only part of the menu that I thought could be vamped up a little better. Especially for a hearty American theme tea. The sandwiches in our Afternoon tea were small open style ones, serving up pastrami and mustard, BLT, salmon and cream cheese & mozzarella-tomato-roquette.
The cake and sweet treat selection are what really sells this Afternoon Tea to me. They had mini iced donuts (decorated in stars and stripes). As well as, salted caramel popcorn brownies, strawberry & gin jelly, topped with vanilla cream & Oreo cheesecake.
Traditional or Upgrade?
With each afternoon tea you are served either tea or coffee, but you also get the option to upgrade your experience.
On booking you can decide between the traditional, the cocktail afternoon tea, or the champagne afternoon tea. With me & my love of fizz, I tried a glass of Veuve Clicquot and it was delightful.
The cocktails of choice are really great. They’re made up of local gin & vodkas and have quirky scouse names, such as the The Sgt Pepper and The Yellow Rummarine. The classics of martini’s and mojito’s are also on offer, so no worries there.
The NYL Atmosphere
Not only is the Afternoon Tea delicious but the atmosphere of NYL is one of my favourites. With the super large windows, high ceilings and leather seating booths, you really do feel like you’re in a New York bar. They always have the best music playing, when there isn’t live music on. And the staff are always on form, super attentive and friendly.
I would always recommend visiting NYL if you’re in the city, for a special occasion or quiet drink. I obviously can’t recommend the Afternoon Tea & Bottomless Brunch enough, but I’m sure their other menus are as equally scrumptious.
For more information on prices and how to book, head to NYL’s website.
Let me know if you have tried here before, or if you’re thinking of heading for the Star Spangled Afternoon Tea.
Peace out, y’all.
