Eleven thoughts I had after watching Stranger Things 1 and 2.

Welcome back to my “Film Friday” series, I’m sorry it has been a few weeks, and I’m sorry this isn’t coming on a Friday. Nevertheless, my returning topic is a good one.

Introducing My Love Of Stranger Things

You don’t have to of watched Stranger Things to of heard about it. It’s the Netflix phenomenon that has literally swept the world. I saw a tweet from Niall Horan (former 1D member) that said ” It seems like you can’t have a normal conversation with someone without having watched Stranger Things or Game Of Thrones”. I don’t watch Game of Thrones, but yes, if you want a good conversation with me right now, then all I want to talk about is Stranger Things.

I fell in love with season 1 last year. I think we started watching it around the beginning of September, and completed it in 2 sittings. I was so happy that me and Ste found something to watch together and both love. Finding a shared love of a series is one of my favourite things. I think because I love watching new dramas and films that I’ve always wanted that one person I can talk about them to all the time. So basically, when Ste married me, whether he liked it or not, his ear would be permanently chewed off by me about cinematic genius.

So after completing season 1 and 2 of Stranger Things, in order to process what I’d just watched, I sat and thought about my initial thoughts on the show. And I had to list ELEVEN of them didn’t I.

A night in with Stranger Things.

Things that we loved

1 – Rather than being born in the 80’s, I wish I was a kid in the 80’s. Fashion, Music, and Film – transport me now!

2 – You don’t have to love Sci-Fi to love this.

3 – I knew it from the moment we met Steve that he would turn out to be amazing. I’ve got a thing for the bad boys who show potential. Plus, his hair, need we say more.

4 – The Bro-mance levels in both seasons between Mike, Will, Dustin and Lucas made my heart burst. Especially, Mike and Will in season 2. Friends like that are hard to find.

5 – The cast of kids (and adults, but the kids – wow) are insanely talented. Massive congratulations to the Duffer Brothers for bringing together this unknown, but incredible cast.

6 – Joyce is a legend. Do I need to say more? Winona Ryder has played the most kick ass woman, that has taught me to always trust my gut.

7 – The show also brought us 2 more kick ass ladies – Eleven and Nancy. They may both be small, but boy are they mighty. Eleven took everyone by storm when the show aired, but towards the end of season 1, and in season 2, Nancy really came in to her own.

8 – The Goonie references in season 2 made me the happiest person in the world. But, what they did to Bob, unforgivable. Bob is played by Sean Astin, who plays Mikey in The Goonies, my favourite film.

9 – Season 2 reference – Max’s brother, Billy, left me with so much intrigue for season 3. There is definitely more to know about that guy.

10 – The only criticism I had about the both series combined, was S2 Episode 7. It felt like too much of filler episode to me, even though it did provide us to an epic Eleven moment – “Bitchin”.

11 – Finally, if you didn’t have a little tear in your eye or lump in your throat watching the last scene of season 2, the school dance, then are you even human?

My Round Up

So what did you think guys? Have you seen the shows? I’d love to know what some of your thoughts were. You’ll find me eagerly awaiting season 3 for the rest of my days now, until it’s here.

Love, Jessi

xoxo

I love, love, love Stranger Things and found it so difficult knowing how fast/slow to watch the 2nd season because I just didn’t want it to end! I really hope there is a season 3. There are just so many unanswered questions!

I was like this too Jackie. I didn’t want to rush it because I wanted to make it last. Can’t wait for a season 3. x

Love love love Stranger Things watch it with my son and we’ve so many conspiracy theories about it! What a fantastic cast and the writing is amazing. We too were devastated about Bob (both big Goonies fans!) cannot wait for S3 to come out but in the meantime I’m sure we will watch both seasons over again.

What do you think about the Harry/Voldemort links that seem to be hinted at with Eleven and the Demogorg?

I was devastated about Bob, crying my eyes out. We picked up on that Harry Potter reference too, we loved that connection. Something big is going to go down isn’t it if they carry on hinting at that connection. It was with Will too, he’s like a horcrux in S2 isn’t he. Fabulous! x
