In recent months Signature Living, one of Liverpool’s biggest hoteliers and developers, acquired space inside the stunning Cunard Building. The Cunard Building is one of the Three Graces that make up Liverpool’s stunning waterfront.
Seeing as it is over the road from the Signature hotel, 30 James Street, it has become the perfect location for their events.
Throughout the rest of the year 30 James Street are hosting different afternoon tea events, for all ages and interests. When Signature say they’re going to town on something, they really do.
Cunard House is a great space to make use of. Signature Living have everything coming up from Murder Mystery days, to a Trolls afternoon tea party for little (and big) kids.
But the event I got to see there, was I imagine the most decadent. It was the 1920’s Afternoon Tea. The event is hosted by actors, and creates a real Great Gatsby atmosphere. Think tall candelabras, cocktail shaped desserts, and wonderful performers.
On Arrival
Walking up to the Cunard is an experience in itself. The surroundings are so historically stunning, and there are actors waiting for you at the door.
You are transported back to the prohibition era in the United States. Grab a glass of champagne and make your way in to the speak easy.
Greeting you is Charleston style music, performers, and a room decorated amazingly.
Each of the tables hosts wonderful looking centrepieces, your afternoon tea menu and your place settings.
Once you’re in your seat you can sit back and relax and be entertained for the next few hours.
The Afternoon Tea
The afternoon tea arrives on a 3-tiered cake stand. The standard of presentation and the food provided is really impressive.
It’s good to note that depending on dietary requirements your afternoon tea can be customised.
Each Tea is served 1 between 2, which is plenty. The sandwich selection is great. There are the classic salmon and cream cheese, along with chicken salad wraps, egg mayonnaise, cheese and pickle and ham hock.
The scones are delicious, and come served with cream (in a shot glass) and a little pot of jam. I really enjoyed the scones.
Then the final layer, the desserts, look almost too good to eat don’t they. The presentation of these is top class. They taste wonderful too, the chocolate is so rich, and the flavours are great.
Of course with Afternoon Tea you get your unlimited tea and coffee.
Overall the quality and quantity of the food and drink was great.
Party like Gatsby
Throughout your time at “Gatsby’s” you’ll be entertained by dancers and singers. I thought this was a real highlight of the afternoon. The music gets you going in to a real party mode.
At times I forgot I was in the middle of the city centre, and believed I was at Gatsby’s.
The dancers are great and they even get you up to boogie with them, after you’ve eaten and sipped more champagne.
Thinking about the atmosphere of the day, the food, the drinks, and the entertainment, this event is perfect for any celebration. Whether you’re a Hen Party, celebrating a birthday, or even just looking for a great few hours out, this event is for you.
Sitting there I said I wish I was getting married again as I would 100% come to this for my Hen Party.
Get Planning
Throughout the rest of the year there are 4 more of these events. Like I said before, if you’re looking to celebrate something special then this is the event for you. Plus, if you’re like me and simply love The Great Gatsby, then it is even more of a must.
The Gatsby Tea is for those of us who want to be transported back in time to a care free party, and escape the bustling world outside for a few hours. Tuck yourselves away at the speak easy, and let your hair down.
Is this something you think you would like to do? Have you ever been to a themed afternoon tea before?

Everywhere does afternoon tea now, so it can be boring or just not special, but this one certainly is! It looks like they got every detail right xx
