Do you ever get to the point where you’re stood in front of your wardrobe, it’s bursting with all kinds of clothes, but you have “nothing to wear”? This happens to me all the time. I’m either forgetting what clothes I own, or just fed up of the usual’s that I reach for.
This is where Personal Shopping and Styling sessions can come in really well. A personal shopping experience can help you find all kinds of things. You can sort out your day time wear, work wear, or the perfect outfit for a special occasion.
I’ve only ever had 1 previous try of a personal shopping experience, but that was with a group of people. So I want to tell you about my one-to-one personal styling experience that I just had with the ladies in John Lewis, Liverpool.
Finding that perfect outfit
Ahead of arriving on the day I wondered how it would work, and how they’d choose my items to try on. When you book in online (I’ll go into this more later), you complete some questions about yourself. To help the ladies know a little more about you, your size and style, the few short questions are about dress size, shoe size, and the likes and dislikes of your style.
I love a casual style, but still with a classic edge. Plus, I hate anything too tight, I like the relaxed boho style of something slightly oversized.
When I arrived in store (before opening time ~ which made me very giddy), I was really excited to see what had been chosen for me to try. Before heading to the Personal Shopping area though, we mooched around the shop floor to see if anything in particular caught our eyes. Surprisingly, none of the items that were chosen for me came to my attention on the rails.
The Personal Shopping Area
The styling area is on the first floor, just across from the beauty counters. It has it’s own part of the changing rooms, so you feel undisturbed, and tucked away.
There are 2 rooms, and sitting areas. Perfect for numerous customers wanting to book on the same day, and also if a group of you come along, it’s the perfect spot to relax and wait. When your friend is choosing an outfit, they can’t be rushed.
My outfits were ready and waiting for me when I arrived. There was an evident theme of blue, which I thought interesting and exciting, as I love trialling new colours that are different to what I usually wear. I scanned the rail and couldn’t wait to get trying them on.
My Outfit Choices
When you book a styling session there is no charge. John Lewis, Liverpool offer 2 kinds of free sessions. One is an hour, and the other 2 hours. The 2 hour session is what I experienced and it goes by extremely quick.
The 2 hour session is advertised towards people who are new to the personal shopping experience. It’s also perfect for those who want to create a new capsule wardrobe.
The 1 hour experience is great for looking for one off items. This could be something for a special occasion, or holiday. It’s also the length of time for those who regularly shop via the personal shopping.
I had quite a few choices to get through, and in typical me style, I loved them all. If you fall in love with an item and want to buy it, then this is the only cost to your experience.
I love the way that if we’re ever feeling stuck over what to wear, then these free services are there to give us inspiration.
All of the items were so me. You can tell the ladies know how to style people well, and they really pay attention to the information you give them.
Booking Your Styling Sessions
If you want to book in for a styling session then the easiest way is via the John Lewis website. You can select your experience, the stylist, and submit all your details that way.
If you’re in store, just pop along on the changing rooms and ask for the Personal Stylists, they can book you in there also. But for the guarantee of the time slot you want, use the online booking system. It’s really easy and straight forward.
So after my 2 hours, I had tried on clothes from brands I’d never tried before, but now totally love. John Lewis have really unique brands in store, and many of their own lines that aren’t as well known.
The shopping experience is something I will be heading to again and again. It really inspired me to shop for more quality than quantity pieces. As well as finding unique items, that won’t be as popular on the high street. It provided all the inspiration I needed to shake up my wardrobe.
I’d love to know what you think of the outfits that were selected for me. Can you guess which one I ended up buying (I’ll be styling it up for the blog soon)? Have you ever tried a personal styling experience before? Do you think you’ll head to your local John Lewis to try one? Let me know, as always.
*This experience was an invitation from the Personal Stylists at John Lewis, Liverpool.
All of the experience is available to customers (apart from early access to store). Views and images are honest and my own.
Massive thank you to Jordine & Jenny for organising a wonderful morning.
