Something new in the City for everyone
I have said it in previous posts, but Liverpool really is a city where when something new opens, everyone knows about it. It’s a well connected city with our mix of press & bloggers. We’ve got great in the know channels & socials like The Guide & Independent Liverpool. I am just thrilled that I also get to be a small part of it all.
It’s been a busy few months for new businesses here and there popping up. They’ve all got their own unique style, which is hard in todays world. There is a real mix of something for everyone from a super stylish coffee shops, to a late night Arcade Bar. The addition of these to the city is perfect, as this mix confirms how for a small dot on the map, we really do have it all.
NQ64 – Arcade Bar
Like a bar, but they’ve swapped the dance floor for a dance mat.
NQ64, located on Colquitt Street in the old Aloha premises, is a new underground Arcade Bar.
If you’re a lover of retro games like Street Fighter, Ninja Turtles, Pin Ball Machines & Crash Bandicoot, then you need to get down there ASAP.
Yes, there is a bar down there serving up cocktails, beers, ciders & more. And yes, there is a great music blasting out. But rather than dancing round in a hard to see space, instead everyone is milling around loving life on all the games.
Tokens are available from the bar. These are £5 for 15. Most of the games take only 1 or 2 tokens. Some of the old school play station games, like my favourite, Streets of Rage and Mario Kart, are free to play on.
So, what are you waiting for? Get yourself down & relive your childhood, but with beer this time!
Open Monday – Friday 4pm – 2am. Saturday & Sunday – 12pm – 2am.
Bloom ‘n’ Bean – Coffee Shop
A hidden gem for the city
Bloom & Bean opened their doors in July on Victoria Street. It is nestled away near to Turtle Bay & Wall Of Fame. It is the most beautiful little nook.
It’s a coffee shop like no other in the city. With only room for a few people to sit in, it’s designed to nip in for a grab & go.
The decor is millennial yet classic. Very art deco. Not only do they have a great selection of coffee & teas, they also offer none caffeinated drinks like matcha, beetroot, & rose lattes. As well as seasonal favourites.
With it being autumn I tried the Toffee Apple Latte (not a Pumpkin Spice, sorry). It was lovely. I can’t wait for the Christmas flavours.
Coffee & cake is waiting for you, 8am-4pm every day.
Koukash Restaurant – Part of Double Tree Hilton Liverpool
Don’t just walk past, come on down.
I recently visited Koukash for their new menu launch. Not only did the menu get a re-vamp, but so did the restaurant space itself. The new menu is based on traditional Mediterranean dishes.
Think of a warm evening in the med, hanging flowers all around, music playing, cocktail in hand – this is the vibe at Koukash.
I was blown away by the food on offer. The main chefs are Marc & Clare Lara, a husband and wife duo who met whilst both working in a Parisian Michelin star restaurant. Clare Lara was also the winner of the professional MasterChef in 2010. So the food for the restaurant is in very safe hands.
With breakfast, lunch & evening meals on offer, as well as Brunch (with a Bottomless option now too), Koukash have you covered throughout all of the day.
A part of Double Tree Hilton Liverpool. Open to guests of the hotel & public.
Bloom Bar & Restaurant – Allerton Road
A slice of Instagram heaven on Allerton Road
What was the Verdant Restaurant is now under new ownership & has had a lovely new make over to become Bloom Bar & Bistro. Think pastel colours, florals & an excellent menu.
The hub of Allerton road has the most amazing mix of restaurant & bars on it. It’s become a great alternative for those nights where you just don’t want to head in to town. Or, if you’re staying in the city it’s not too far out for you to visit to try some great places, like Bloom.
On the night of their launch I sampled the cocktails & food that is now on offer. I eyed up the brunch menu & it sounds mouthwatering. I can’t wait to head back soon & enjoy it all again.
Open Monday – Friday from 11am. Weekends from 10am.
Where will you go & try first? Let me know.
