Bringing Hygge in to my home with Owen Drew
I confess, I am obsessed with candles. They’re burning every day, all year round in my home. I don’t just like to confine them to one time of year.
However, candles lit in Autumn and Winter add that special glow. There’s nothing better than when it’s dark outside, and you get cosy in candle light.
If you know about hygge, then this is so that.
I get my candles from all over. I’ll buy cheap ones that really don’t last, but add to my ambience. I’ve bought expensive ones, that actually turned out not very good.
My latest addition to my ever growing candle collection though are from Owen Drew Luxury Candles.
Owen Drew is a brand name I had heard of for a while. From everyone raving about them, and seeing how luxurious the products were, I expected them to be a huge southern based company.
Getting to know Owen Drew
How wrong I was though. The raving about them and the luxurious part is correct. But they’re a homemade business from the Wirral. This makes me so proud. Not only has a UK based company took the candle world by storm, but it all began in my birthplace.
Owen Drew was founded by Drew. The company name holds sentimental value to him as it’s namesakes are the surnames of his grandparents.
Drew started creating and selling candles in 2016. In only 2 short years he’s amassed a business that now ships world wide & is loved by celebrities.
Despite the wonderful growth in the business, all candles are still carefully and lovingly handmade by the small team, on the Wirral.
The dream was to create candles of a high quality that wouldn’t begin to tint walls and ceilings. Drew experiments with essential oils and vegan soy wax to create the different scents.
The scents of candles are inspired by all kinds, and appeal to so many. Some of my favourites are the Maldives, Anglesey, and Sicilian Lemon.
Inspired By Autumn
If you like your candles burning in Autumn/Winter and want a more suited scent for that time of year, then Owen Drew have you covered. Their new autumn range has been released and it is stunning.
The collection is made up of Reading Room, Blackthorn, Arboretum, and Port of Liverpool.
I’ve had Blackthorn and Port of Liverpool burning round my home and they smell wonderful.
Owen Drew describe Blackthorn as –
“Celebrate the scent of one of Autumn’s greatest gifts! A mix of hedgerow hero’s including juicy sloes and plump damsons, this deliciously rich scent showcases bountiful berries, foraged fruits and ancient aromas in a magical mix that will wrap your home in an autumnal blanket of scent.”
It must have been my love of Gin that drew me to the scent of the juicy sloes.
The Port of Liverpool candle is equally autumnal as it is special to me, and to Drew himself. It’s created with Liverpool’s rich docking history in mind. Liverpool was once one of the most influential and busiest ports of its time. Shipments of exotic fruits and cotton would make it’s way in and out of the city.
This candle is a homage to that heritage.
“A true celebration of Liverpool’s Maritime past, The Port of Liverpool candle brings together a collection of scents from the four corners of the globe. Taking inspiration from the exotic goods and never-seen-before imports from the British Empire and beyond; this evocative scent is designed to transport you to the bustling ports of Bombay, Hong Kong and Ceylon and of course Liverpool; our gateway to the rest of the world.”
This candle would make the perfect gift for a Liverpool lad or lass.
Feet Up, Candles On
If you’re looking to get cosy this autumn then, because the cold days and nights have started to draw in, then you have to add an Owen Drew to your home. Like I said, you can order online or head to their store in Pacific Road, Birkenhead.
Their candles really are affordable luxury. Prices for candles start at £30 and room sprays are £25.
For first time Owen Drew shoppers I would recommend grabbing an Autumn range candle, a fresh/fruity scent, or one of their Rose Gold candles.
Follow them on their social media channels to see the latest news and upcoming releases.
Let me know as always if you’ve tried Owen Drew candles before, or you’re wanting to get your hands on some.
